DLP TV vs Plasma TV

What is a Plasma TV?
Basically, a plasma TV contains a flat TV screen made up of two thin panels of glass. Located inside of the glass panels are cylinders filled with gas, known as pixels. Each pixel is composed of green, blue and red fluorescent lights, also referred to as phosphors. Anytime an electric current flows through the pixels, the gas filled cells form plasma. Also, the screen thickness makes it possible for consumers to look at movies with wide screen formats. However, one of several issues of plasma TV sets is that it runs on a lot of electric power, and does not perform properly at higher altitudes. And the TV sets have short life spans due in part to the phosphors losing their brightness. This is frequently referred to as screen burn, caused by the phosphors starting to degrade and lose brightness.
What is DLP TV?
The DLP (digital light processing) TV system creates video pictures by reflecting light. DLP technology isn’t just limited to television sets. Theatres currently promote their usage of electronic digital cinema projection. One of the equipment inside the DLP TV set is a spinning wheel with assorted colors. The light shines from the color wheel after which goes through a semiconductor called a digital micromirror device (DMD). Inside of the DMD chip are millions of small mirrors. Every mirror represents a single pixel on the TV screen. The DMD moves the mirrors so that they can either reflect blue, green or red light into the TV display screen or deflect light, which in turn produces dark light in the TV display. The DLP chip also will turn the mirrors off and on at a high rate of speed. This kind of rotating it on and off creates different shades of gray, referred to as a grayscale. The benefits of using a television using DLP technology include things like smooth images, great color performance without any possibility of having screen burn. The most commonly encountered consumer complaint with DLP televisions comes from having to replace the color wheel as well as the DLP lamp eventually.
